CANADIAN actor Jay Baruchel will next be seen on screen in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in which he stars as the protégé of a wizard played by Nicolas Cage. Afterward, this young 28-year-old actor says he wants to graduate from sorcerer to superhero as Batman’s sidekick Robin in the follow-up to The Dark Knight.
Baruchel told Comic Heroes magazine that costumed crime fighters seemed a natural progression from his fantasy roles in How to Train Your Dragon and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. He explained that if there is any modern mythology to be found, it will be in comics and that he would be lying if he didn’t think he was intuitive to play Robin.
He also stated that the only parts he thought for his whole life was supposed to play were Robin and the Dauphin from Henry V. Aside from that, he has also another comic book character in mind in the longer term- Frank Castle, the Punisher- Which is his favorite character of all time. If Cage’s guys are superman and ghost Rider, well, he said it is going to be Frank Castle for him.
This isn’t the first time an actor has been linked to the role of Robin. Tabloid nonsense has suggested that Zac Efron and Shia LaBeouf are in line to play the boy wonder, while Heroes actor Milo Ventimiglia once said he was keen to appear as the adult version of Robin, who calls himself Nightwing.
Well, it seems that it’s highly unlikely to see Robin in Batman 3 or that Baruchel would be the right person for the role. Nice try for him, but guys, I think we can rule this out along with Cher for Catwoman, Eddie Murphy for Riddler and all the other mismatched suggestions.
Christopher Nolan’s Batman 3 is due for release on July 2012 and the director recently revealed he avoids reading such casting rumors.
Speaking at the Hero Complex Film Festival in Los Angeles, Nolan honestly said that he doesn’t really look at the internet. He realized that it wasn’t going to be helpful to look at what they say, at a very early stage in taking Batman.
July 2012? That’s a little far from today. For now, experience some nasty magic and watch The Sorcerer’s Apprentice 2010 Online.
