Watch Sex and the City 2 – In Sex and the City 2 story lines, troubled relationships is nothing new and is part of its city life, but a different level of a possible snub from the Abu Dhabi, the city that plays the exotic backdrop for the movie sequel could only mean a bad romance.
It’s less than two weeks before the world wide release of the Sex and the City 2, and it’s still unclear whether the sequel will be shown in mega oil-rich Abu Dhabi, the city that houses important offices of the federal government, and is the seat for the UAE Government that houses the Emirati Royal Family. The city that serves for the scripted setting of the Sex and the City 2 where Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her New York posse swaps their Jimmy Choos for sandals and kick the sands of Abu Dhabi.

Sex and the City 2 is on a rocky rapport with the Emirate officials who turned down the Sex and the City 2 request to film it in their city, forcing the gang to head to Morocco and create an Abu Dhabi setting. The original Sex and the City film in 2008 was not shown in the UAE, where censors remove scenes such as kissing, nudity and expletives from film and televions shows. Though the Abu Dhabi has assertively marketed itself as an emerging hub for film studios and production companies for a strong sex theme movie of Sex and the City 2 would be a snub. This only shows UAE has a strong conservative culture and tradition. The film plot touches some racy and political regional affairs that has been a high sensitivity on the City part.
The movie’s trailer shows and invites fans of the fashionable four at the Abu Dhabi and the Arabian Desert is actually taken in North Africa, 4,000 miles away from the UAE. And now it is still unclear if Warner Bros. could bring the Sex and the City 2 into Abu Dhabi cinemas or even in some parts of the UAE after its May 27 release date. The National Media Council, responsible for oversight of films and other media in the UAE, declined to comment. The UAE’s refusal to participate in the film reflects a desire to control their brand, said Leila Hudson, graduate director of Near Eastern studies at the University of Arizona.
Hopes for the showing of the Sex and the City 2 at the UAE is still up. Candace Bushnell’s novel Sex and the City that forms the basis for the movie can be found prominently displayed among best-sellers in Dubai bookstores. A Dubai-based movie theater manager said the “Sex and the City” sequel is still on the tentative schedule. She holds out to hope it will be cleared for local theatres. Still Sex and the City 2 has much hope to celebrate though, its first Sex and the City film is a phenomenal one, having a gross of $415,252,786 and it’s possible if you have the whole world to launch the film.
