Dream Works’ Shrek Forever After is the 4th and final film of the Shrek franchise that will hit the US theaters at the end of this week, Friday, May 21. Its US premiere has already been celebrated last Sunday, May 16 at the Gibson Amphitheatre that saw the stars of Team Green consisting of Shrek (Mike Myers), Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) on a green carpet instead of a red carpet.

Even with its fabulous stars shinning at the green carpet, most of the people in the movie industry are cautious about Shrek 4 making a success. When the movie was screened last April, the outcome and reaction was far from what the Dream Works has expected. It was certainly miles away from the three previous hit Shrek films that earned a combined $2.2 billion in US and globally with the help of DVD sales. It was once rumored in Hollywood circles that the final Shrek installment should never have happened and would have been better off and completely forgotten after the success of Shrek 3 film. This prompted some Shrek 4 casts and other Holywood elites like Steven Spielberg to briskly promote the film at its Premiere Night to further boost the chances of Shrek 4 hitting the Box Office Hit.

Mike Mitchell’s Shrek 3-D effect stimulation is arguably impressive as seen in the screenplay that created some funny personalities, new villains, and undergone visual changes for the familiar characters, but in critic’s point of view, it has lost the charm, humor and essence from those three previous Shrek films had. This vastly increasing popular 3-D form like in many other 3-D films has made inevitable image darkening that was never seen in the original form of Shrek 4 predecessors.

Whatever the Dream Works and Mike Mitchell are aiming by changing Shrek 4 into 3-D form somehow lost the magic in convincing most of the Shrek fans. Come May 21 and most fans will not only see Team Green saving the Far Far Away land but also the films future gross at the US theaters and at the global theaters next.
