Shrek Forever After Villain
Shrek Forever After, or Shrek: The Final Chapter in 3D in poster and TV spots, is an upcoming 2010 3D animated film which will be released in U.S. cinemas on May 21, 2010, and on July 9, 2010 in the U.K. Directed by Mike Mitchell (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo), it’s the 4th Shrek film which was extremely successful since its 1st Shrek movie in 2001 that catapults Dream Works as a prime competitor to Pixar in the field of feature film animation, especially in computer animation.
Like the first three Shrek films, the movie is again based on fairy tale themes. We see Shrek and his friends battle with villains, the likes of Lord Farquaad and the mother-son duo of The Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming. In this 4th Shrek film, along side with a minor movie villain Stabbery (voiced by Mark Linn-Baker), a witchdoctor that placed a curse on Far Far Away, is the smooth deal-maker, dwarfish creature Rumpelstiltskin, the main antagonist of the film which is voiced by Walt Dohrn, (originally Paul McCartney), writer and director of Season 2 SpongeBob Squarepants, and 2002-2003 Dexter’s Laboratory. First debuted in Shrek the Third, Rumpelstiltskin appears as one of the villains in the Poison Apple Bar where Prince Charming incorrectly named him Frumpypigskin.
Rumpelstiltskin is a character in the fairy tale of the same name that originates in Germany where he is known as Rumpelstilzchen, literally means little rumble stilt, and was collected by the Brothers Grimm and first published in the 1812 edition of Children’s and Household Tales and later revised in succeeding editions until the final version was published in 1857.
Here’s the famous song on how he revealed his name in the fairy tale and was defeated of his trick by the Queen, the 1886 translation by Lucy Crane reads:
To-day do I bake, to-morrow I brew,
The day after that the queen’s child comes in;
And oh! I am glad that nobody knew
That the name I am called is Rumplestiltskin!
